IBM Introduces New Capacity Backup and High Availability Server Offerings

The iSeries for High Availability Server Includes High Availability Software Packages

IBM announced the worldwide availability of two new IBM eServer business continuity offerings for mid-size customers seeking capacity backup and high-availability solutions to protect their most valuable business data. The new iSeries for Capacity Backup offering is designed to meet the needs of customers seeking an off-site, disaster recovery server at an affordable price. The iSeries for Capacity Backup offering features iSeries On/Off Capacity on Demand, which allows customers to better utilize their server resources by designating a minimum set of active processors, with a set of standby processors that can be activated at no additional charge in the event of a qualifying disaster.

The second offering, the new iSeries for High Availability server, is designed to meet the needs of customers seeking to minimize both planned and unplanned downtime events. The iSeries for High Availability server includes high availability software packages from leading independent software vendors.

Each of the new server offerings is available as a specially configured i825, i870 or i890 server. "Customers are telling us that their infrastructure must respond immediately to a server failure or unexpected spike in demand," said Cecelia Marrese, vice president of marketing, eServer iSeries. "Our new business continuity offerings provide customers with the peace of mind of knowing that they can turn on additional server capacity or move applications entirely to a standby server."

"IBM's iSeries for Capacity Backup offering is an excellent option for customers looking for a non-complex answer to disaster recovery situations," said Bill Merchantz, President, Lakeview Technology, Inc. "Additionally, the iSeries for High Availability offering is well suited for customers seeking a capacity upgrade path to cover their growth while solving complex information availability issues."

With support for Linux, Java, Windows and ported UNIX applications, and the ability to run multiple virtual servers on a single system, IBM eServer iSeries offers customers an affordable, easy-to-manage alternative to the cost and complexity of less reliable, less secure server farms.
