Gartner
Inc. estimates that consumer IM is in use in more than 50 percent of U.S.
businesses and 30 percent of non-U.S. businesses, but that less than one
percent of businesses are managing their IM environment (Gartner Inc.,
"Enterprise Use of Consumer IM: Get a Handle on It", 9/27/02). Many
organizations use policies to govern the acceptable use of Internet tools,
but they typically lack the means to enforce these policies. With the
addition of NetIQ imMarshal for MSN, NetIQ now provides a comprehensive
solution to manage, monitor, control and report on all aspects of employee
activity on the Internet including web, e-mail and IM. Acting as
a filter for MSN Messenger, NetIQ imMarshal for MSN provides access management,
archiving of chat sessions, protection from viruses, real-time content
analysis, file transfer control and activity reporting. The
product employs proven, award-winning, easy-to-use filtering technology to
deliver administrators with a complete solution for securing MSN Messenger.
It is flexible enough to adapt to the most complex of policies, providing
customized enforcement for groups of users, individuals or the entire
business. Only pre-approved content and communication is permitted while
objectionable or infected content and suspect parties can automatically be
handled according to pre-specified actions. "Instant
Messaging offers important benefits for business; particularly for
enterprises spread over wide areas and different time zones," said Chris
Williams, director of Messaging Management at NetIQ. "It enables you to
stay in touch with colleagues and know instantly when they come online.
However, if left unmanaged, IM offers a potential means for circumventing
enterprise security measures. NetIQ imMarshal for MSN offers organizations of
all sizes a secure way to utilize the benefits of IM collaboration." The
solution is part of NetIQ's complete suite of Internet content security
offerings for the management and protection of business Internet resources.
It provides a complimentary feature set to solutions such as NetIQ
MailMarshal and NetIQ WebMarshal; providing effective management and
enforcement of your organizations' acceptable use policy. NetIQ imMarshal for MSN is priced by the number of users in an organization and is available as a Small Business Server License for up to 75 users for 1,295 Dollar or as an Enterprise version including a four-Server License for 2,000 Dollar plus 750 Dollar per 100 users.
