Multi-Tech Systems: VPN Gateway Family Expanded

New Models Feature More Users, Better Throughput, and Improved Versatility

(26.07.03) - Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a data communications and telecommunications technology company based in suburban Minneapolis, announced new members of its RouteFinder VPN Internet Security Appliance family for both enterprise and SOHO level users. The company is adding two new models, which complement both the low and high end user. For the high-end enterprise, the new Model RF760VPN will be able to provide network access and VPN functionality to users in the 100 to 500 range. On the SOHO side, the new Model RF560VPN can accommodate up to 25 users. Both new models feature better firewall throughput and encryption throughput due to an enhanced processor design. The new enterprise RF760VPN will start shipping next quarter at an MSRP of 3999 Dollars and the RF560VPN, which will be shipping next month at an MSRP of 229 Dollars.

"What we have done with this announcement is to add a model to both ends of our VPN product family with beefed-up processing power," states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "That additional power improves throughput for both firewall and VPN operation. That improved throughput, in turn, allows for an increase in the total number of concurrent users. With the addition of these two products our VPN gateway family will serve the needs of a wider range of organizations and allow enterprises to select all of their VPN office needs from a single vendor which will provide a more a consistent approach to network and Internet security policies."

Multi-Tech RF660VPN utilizing an Intel P4 GHz processor and gigabit Ethernet ports
The RF560VPN is targeted to the SOHO market and adds stateful packet inspection and PPTP VPN to the low end Multi-Tech VPN Gateway product line. The RF560VPN's faster processor makes it capable of handling more concurrent VPN users, better firewall throughput and more concurrent Internet users. This set of capabilities makes the RF560VPN a more attractive product for business users.

The RF760VPN is more powerful version of the Multi-Tech RF660VPN utilizing an Intel P4 GHz processor and gigabit Ethernet ports. With this addition, the Multi-Tech family of RF600VPN, RF660VPN and RF760VPN will run the same software with different features and capabilities for each model. For enterprises this means easier and more efficient upgrade in the future. The new RF760VPN provides one year free content filtering, and will have the optional anti-virus subscription. The RF760VPN is designed for enterprises requiring concurrent Internet access for above 100 users up to approximately 500, whereas the RF600VPN will be targeted to the enterprise networks requiring concurrent Internet access for up to 50 people, and the RF660VPN up to 100. These same numbers can be used to estimate the product's usable range for Vans. These numbers are guidelines only for achieving optimum performance. Since one of Multi-Tec's advantages is that it does not license its products for a specific number of users, the number of users on a product can be increased, but performance can vary. In addition, the RF600VPN and RF660VPN have 10/100 Ethernet ports for the LAN, WAN and DMZ, while the RF760VPN has 10/100/1000 Gigabyte Ethernet ports.
