Storage Migration Program to Tap EMC Customer Base Initiative
Implements a Three-Pronged Approach (19.12.03)
- IBM announced it is launching a storage migration program designed
specifically to help customers replace EMC storage servers with highly
scalable IBM storage servers. The program includes the introduction of a
proven technology designed to help customers easily migrate to IBM storage
servers.

To kick
off the migration program, a global team of more than 100 consultants and
technologists have been armed with the tools to help transfer customers from
EMC to IBM storage products. Industry by industry, customers are choosing IBM
storage systems over EMC. Some recent competitive data migrations include
Hennepin County in Minnesota, Insurance Services Office (ISO), Royal
Caribbean and the United States Department of Agriculture (DollarA). "We
have been seeing increased customer interest in replacing high cost,
proprietary EMC storage products with IBM storage solutions. This migration
program is designed to help customers realize the substantial technology and
cost benefits offered by IBM storage products," said Dan Colby, General
Manager of IBM Storage Systems. "This patent-pending migration
technology provides an easy path to help speed the migration process and
avoid network downtime - moving customers off of EMC products. Specialists
from within IBM will help migrate data centers quickly while maintaining
maximum availability of storage resources. The initiative implements a three-pronged approach:
·
Assessing On Demand Infrastructure - Evaluate customers' current
storage infrastructure and develop a new solution that can help address the
need for greater performance and lower total cost of ownership. A key focus
will be to develop an optimized solution that can help maximize a customer's
return on investment;
·
Providing Storage Infrastructure - Assessing implementation storage
options that suit customer needs, and;
·
Deploying Solution - Provide data migration services to help move the
customer's existing data from older EMC systems to new IBM storage solutions.
These services utilize patent-pending IBM technology to support a quick, easy
and non-disruptive data migration. IBM has
also identified its network of IBM Business Partners as a key factor of
success with the migration program. As a part of the initiative, IBM Business
Partners have also been enabled to provide the data migration services and
have been given access to IBM's data migration tools, services and support.
Through this initiative, IBM is working to extend the reach of IBM
TotalStorage solutions and increase IBM Business Partner sales momentum. A
number of IBM Business Partners such as Champion Solutions Group have already achieved success with this
methodology. "IBM's
methodology allows Champion to reduce the difficulties typically associated
with data migration, making EMC replacements with IBM solutions attractive to
our customers," said Chris Pyle, president and CEO of Champion Solutions
Group. "The tools and
resources IBM is providing through this program will help the Champion sales
force generate more storage systems revenue as a result." The migration program comes at a time when a growing number of companies are identifying increased storage needs within their IT departments, but have postponed or cancelled migration initiatives due to concerns over network disruptions and downtime. IBM's hardware-assisted data migration services can help speed the data migration process while avoiding disruption to customers' businesses.
