"As
spam evolves into a more serious global threat, European enterprises
increasingly require solutions that block spam without impacting legitimate
email communications," said Enrique Salem, president and CEO of
Brightmail. "We have worked with enterprises and governments on
combating spam for several years now, and now we are focusing on driving our
business in this region. Kevin and Daniel bring the experience, vision and
drive that will be critical to our success in protecting European business
from spam and email security threats." Spam is a
growing problem for businesses and consumers worldwide. In March 2004,
Brightmail measured 63 percent of all Internet email as spam, compared to
seven percent in March of 2001. Spam has increasingly become a global problem
with more spam targeting non-US Internet users and a rise in non-English
spam. As such, Brightmail has identified a need to further extend its
presence in Europe to respond to an increased need for protection from
organizations in Europe and Asia. The creation of an EMEA operation enables
Brightmail to provide anti-spam technology to European enterprises and
service providers. Since
2002, Brightmail has provided its anti-spam solutions to European service
providers, and more recently Brightmail has offered its Brightmail Anti-Spam
software to European enterprises. Among its major European customers are
service providers Belgacom and Demon, and enterprises such as Deutsche Bank
and Airbus. Brightmail has also worked closely with national governments and the European Union - providing data about spam and advice about how it can be controlled through better laws, education and technology. This work has included helping to run Europe's first summit on spam in July 2003, which was attended by the UK Government, the European Commission, and business leaders. Kevin
Roberts joins Brightmail from virtual private network software company
Enterasys where he was sales director, EMEA. He brings to Brightmail in-depth
knowledge and more than 20 years of experience of building and driving
national and international sales, marketing and technical organisations at
such companies as Motorola, Alcatel, and EAE Information Systems. Daniel Mothersdale also joins Brightmail from Enterasys where he worked alongside Kevin as marketing director, EMEA. His career includes working for British Telecom and Ericsson in data communications, as well as periods at Timeplex and ACT CableStream. In his new role at Brightmail he will apply his twin strengths as a specialist in both network security and European IT sales and marketing. (ma) Brightmail Tel.
